Hospitality and brand design for Campus Living Villages

We were approached by the international student accommodation provider Campus Living Villages to design a social space that is the first of its kind for the company, and for New Zealand.

Home Social Space is the response to a brief to create space which functions as a common room and social study area by day, and a bar by night, for the students of Christchurch’s Ilam Campus. The space was required to both increase student well-being and create a new stream of revenue for the company. Students needed to feel equally at home in this space having a beer with friends or working on a group engineering assignment.

A completely holistic design approach was required to answer this challenging brief. To be sure that the users were put at the centre of this project, Think & Shift first worked with CLV to research the wants and needs of the students who would occupy this space. Following this research, we worked on every little detail of the project from the business concept, through to a full spatial design, production of furniture, fitout management, development of the brand, and even helping to write the menus.

Home Social Space is the first realisation of concept that is hoped to roll out to other locations around the world in future.
